Description/Bio: ABOUT JON BIDWELL & HIS ART
The goal of jonbidwell.com is to deliver the highest quality digital fine art and photography available today. I am a self-taught artist who began producing digital artwork for mostly commercial applications in 1996 using Macromedia Freehand. Today, all of my work is produced exclusively in Adobe Photoshop.

Photography

Images in the photography galleries were shot using Olympus 2020, Olympus E-10, Nikon Coolpix 995, Nikon D100 and Kodak DCS Pro SLR/N digital cameras. No film photography appears anywhere on this site. I shoot, manipulate and print my images in a 100% digital workflow. As a digital purist. I see Photoshop as a natural evolution in the process of contemporary image production. Every photograph is meticulously edited before being approved for publication on the website.

Traditionalists beware! Some of my photographs are edited using paint filters, noise reduction algorithms and layering techniques which give them a surreal, organic appearance. Mostly you will find this effect utilized on landscape shots.

For example, in these Fall Meadow images, the effect is more pronounced.
In this photograph called The Line, the effect is far less dramatic.

Certain photographs have had noise added to more closely simulate the appearance of traditional film.

To the right of every image on the site you will see a magnifying glass icon next to the words "view detail." You can always use this feature to get a close up look at a section of any image to get a true idea of texture and appearance.

Digital Abstractions

How do you do that? This is the most common question I am asked.

My digital abstracts are created by combining layers of digital photography with layers of digital illustration. I use a Wacom Tablet to create the lines, forms and shapes which produce the abstract dimension on one layer by utilizing the digital brushes and pens in Photoshop. This layer of illustration is then composited with one or more layers of edited digital photography to create the final image. I use the distortion and paint filters in Photoshop along with the liquify tool to manipulate the photographs of stones, water, soil, and grass which I use for the organic bases.

My goal is to produce digital abstract art which looks as though it was created using natural media tools, paints and brushstrokes. With traditional paintings in mind, I offer my "E" size digital abstracts as oversized canvas prints which come ready to be wrapped on stretcher bars and framed with an exposed canvas face. Photographs with "E" sizes or larger are also available on canvas. For more information please visit the CANVAS PRINTS link.

Tribal Design

The tribal design images are the only art on this site that was not produced 100% digitally. These illustrations were created using India Ink rapidographs on bristol board. Prints are not for sale, however feel free to download the main images for use as tattoo designs if you would like.

Prints

These are giclée prints produced with an Epson 9600 using 100% pigment based Ultrachrome© inks for maximum archivability. With the exception of my digital abstracts produced on canvas, all of my images are printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Satin© 308 gram fine art paper.

Until June of 2007 I produced my prints personally. Today all my giclées are produced by The Lazarus Group in Kansas City, Missouri. My photographs and artwork come hand signed and numbered in limited edition series at each size. Images created before July 2005 are produced in limited edition quantities ranging between 3 units and 373 units depending on the piece. Images created after July 2005 are produced in editions of 20 at each size.

Most images are available at a variety of sizes ranging from "A" prints which are typically 10 x 13 to "E" prints which are 31 x 43. Some images are only made at small or large sizes. Sorry, no special orders on limited edition work.

Unless specifically requested, prints are produced with a white border. Border sizes are as follows:

A - Prints: 1.5"
B - Prints: 1.5"
C - Prints: 2"
D - Prints: 3"
E - Prints: 4"
F - Prints: 4"

The dimensions listed beside each image INCLUDE this white border.

Satisfaction

I want my clients to LOVE their art. If you recieve your print and decide that you don't like it, for any reason, I will be more than happy to refund your money or exchange it for another piece at the same size if your return postmark is dated within 14 days of purchase.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via e-mail: info@jonbidwell.com or by phone at 913-722-5843. Thank you for visiting.

Sincerely,

Jon Bidwell
